Rumi Leonara 🤍🐶 my first born. Always happy with the bare necessities. Every night before going to bed I tell her that she’s the best person in the entire galaxy, probably doesn’t make a difference to her. But she’s a person. We got her around the same time as I started my journey in abstract art, it was a time I really learned to let go of many fears and inhibitions.

The thing about watercolours is that it’s always nudging me towards deeper life lessons:

✨Patience (watching the colours mix)

✨Surrender (letting the colours flow as they are meant to)

✨Take full ownership of my choices and decisions (how and when I add water and colour)

✨Appreciating the momentary beauty of the process

✨Accepting what remains (after the water has dried up, even if it ends up looking sh!t sometimes)

Sharing an experiment here which ended up looking very different to how it began. I don’t have photos of the initial stage where the colours were still wet, but I am annoyed at how the hot pink dried up (I was excited about it) and pleasantly surprised at how the top blue portion dried up (like a aerial view of a water hole).

H E L L O 💛

Coming up here to say hello (after what feels like an eternity) from the abyssal depths of the ocean that’s parenthood. I’ve missed coming here, sharing my art here and connecting with you all.

This is my little one - Abhirami. She’s almost 7.5 months old.

7.5 months ago when I entered this whirlwind of parenting, I kept hearing fellow parents say “just wait till she…” so I kept thinking there’s a perfectly sweet spot somewhere in the near future where everything falls in a routine and life will be a cruise. I naively thought I would somehow figure out my way into that eye of the whirlwind, the calm amidst the chaos. And then, I would just come back to this place with a bang, making and sharing art like old times.

Soon I realised it’s all the tricks of my mind, the mind of a first time parent 😂

I am realising there’s no perfect sweet spot waiting for me in the future. Everything happens organically. Things happen when they are meant to happen. In fact, if we look at babies, they are always in a sweet spot. They just are. Little beings in a natural state of flow.

I am also learning that the art I create needs to go through some transformation. The art I create has a life of its own, I need to respect that, and let it grow and go the way it’s destined to be. As an artist, it’s easy to get stuck in someone else’s creative perspective and process.

So as I keep moving along this path, integrating all the different roles I play, I want to make this account a more organic reflection of my life. Some days you’ll see some art and some days you’ll see something like this.

Little one kept looking at one of my really old oil paintings which is sitting on the piano. She would look at it, smile, flap her hands and excitedly bang away on the piano.

My heart was full seeing her enjoying the two things I couldn’t live without- art and the piano.
And that’s when I realised it was a moment I wanted to share with you all 💛

Act of Fear VS Act of Love:

Going through some significant changes right now, this year is big for me. Life as I know it will be changing. Today, I paused to see if I am acting out of fear or love. Took the paints out after a long time, and remembered this beautiful quote by #khalilgibran

“It is said that before entering the sea a river trembles with fear.
She looks back at the path she has traveled, from the peaks of the mountains, the long winding road crossing forests and villages.

And in front of her,she sees an ocean so vast, that to enter
there seems nothing more than to disappear forever.

But there is no other way.
The river can not go back.
Nobody can go back.
To go back is impossible in existence.

The river needs to take the risk
of entering the ocean
because only then will fear disappear, because that’s where the river will know it’s not about disappearing into the ocean,
but of becoming the ocean” - KHALIL GIBRAN
